Grids, Guides and Rulers

 

Sometimes you need to line things up and need things to be a specific size. Grids, Guides & Rulers are the way to go.

SHORT ASSIGNMENT: This shouldn't take too terribly long and shouldn't be too terribly challenging. The main idea is to show me that you understand what you're doing and that you're learning without too many stumbling blocks along the way.

• Create a new file that is 8.5" wide x 11" tall
 

• Press <command + R> to show Rulers
 

• To to the "View" Menu at the top of the screen. Look for "Snap to Grid" toward the bottom of the list. This will make your guides literally snap to the established grid in inches.

• Put guidelines at the exact vertical and horizontal centers of the page

• Put guidelines at 1/4" from all four edges

• Copy and paste one of the clip art images from a previous assignment onto the page

 

• Switch to X-Ray (outline) mode. Finish in X-Ray/Outline mode
 

• Take a screen shot of the X-Ray/Outline mode & one of the Preview mode
 

• Upload both to your website for your assignment entitled "Grids, Guides & Rulers"

Industry Standard Software being learned is Adobe Illustrator and a Key Aspect of this software is knowing how to use grids, guides and rulers.
