Content Standard 3.0: Demonstrate Knowledge of the Key Aspects of Production Using Industry Standard Software

Industry Standard Software being learned is Adobe Illustrator and a Key Aspect of this software is knowing how to use the Grouping feature.

Grouping in Adobe Illustrator

We use grouping in Illustrator to make elements within our drawings stay together so that we can move them, make them larger or smaller, duplicate them easily, etc.

Mr. Eagen has a video he did that will show you what we are talking about. Click here to watch it again.

But what if you need to alter just a couple of elements within that group? You don't want to ungroup it and run the risk of messing it all up, so what can you do? You can Isolate objects within a group. Watch the short video here.

One final video where we explain to you how to save yourself time, frustration, and show you precisely how to do this next exercise 100% correctly. There are two very short videos. Watch the first one... then watch the second one.

ASSIGNMENT:

Okay! Now you're ready for your instructions.

Please read them, they are short.

DO THEM IN ORDER, IT TOTALLY MATTERS.

  • Download the file of the face parts.

  • Goal: Modify all of the heads to create different faces out of the provided face parts.

  • GROUP THE HEAD PARTS BEFORE CHOOSING FACIAL PARTS

  • GROUP FACIAL PARTS BEFORE MOVING THEM

  • Seriously, the previous 2 lines are in all capital letters for a reason!

  • You'll run out of eyes and facial parts. So, you'll need to get more by copying and pasting.

  • Use the isolation technique to give crossed eyes, yellow teeth, etc.
