Beginnings of Graphic Design

Sometimes studying history isn't thrilling. This is probably no exception. But learn it. You're going to USE it in this class - oh and there will be a test.

Part 1: The Invention of Writing

Part 2: Alphabets

Part 3: The Asian Contributions

Part 4: Illuminated Manuscripts

Okay so now that we have learned a little about the Beginnings of Graphic Design, let's apply our knowledge in our notebooks.

ASSIGNMENT

Remember 3rd grade when you and your bestie had your own special code language? You didn't do that? Oh well... pretend you did and relive that moment here.

Develop an alphabet OF YOUR OWN - NOT A FONT, an alphabet.

That doesn't mean go to the internet.

That doesn't mean copy a font.

Your alphabet can't be recognizable characters i.e. A=G kind of thing - sorry Charlie. That's a big "NO" on that one.

This is NOT done on the computer, but on paper.

You should make your alphabet "easy" enough to copy because you also need to Write and Interpret a complete sentence using your new alphabet. A complete sentence has a subject and a verb in the predicate.

Great sentences, if you can't think of any are:

• I love Graphic Design.

• Kennedy is the best instructor ever.

• From this day forward I solemnly promise to always try my best at everything I attempt.

DUE NEXT TIME CLASS MEETS - Place in the basket for your class period.
